LM Radio, Mozambique’s only English music radio station, has been honoured with two more prestigious Diamond Arrow Awards, presented at the PMR Africa Mozambique Leaders and Achievers Awards.
These top-in-category awards were received for being chosen by the business community as the top Mozambique Radio Station “for excellence in Radio Broadcasting, in the categories of Music and Entertainment, as well as News and Current Affairs”.
The Gold Arrow award was presented to Radio Mozambique, while Radio Cidade took the Silver Arrow prize.
LM Radio’s CEO, Chris Turner, said, “We are delighted to be recognised in this way in the Mozambican broadcasting industry, especially considering that we launched the station in September 2010.” “Dedication, perseverance and a commitment to our vision from the entire LM Radio team has helped LM Radio become a household name with our ‘Happy Listening’ lifetime memory, hit music format”. “We are also fast becoming a favourite station for the younger urban generation who enjoy the style of the ‘new’ music we play.”
“Strong community involvement has helped build a loyal listener base in Mozambique with a growing audience across Southern Africa via Free to Air satellite, simulcasting via community radio stations and Internet audio streaming.”
In Mozambique, LM Radio serves Maputo, Matola, Ponta do Ouro, Ressano Garcia and neighbouring South African towns of Komatipoort and Marloth Park. The daily audience of more than 85,000 (weekly average 135,000), comprises Portuguese and non-Portuguese speaking middle to upper income professionals and decision makers (LSM 8 — 10). Recent research shows that there is an increasing number of younger listeners who tune in for entertainment and to learn English.
LM Radio broadcasts on 87.8 FM in Southern Mozambique, on Free-To-Air satellite across Africa on Intelsat 20 using a single view DSTV decoder or Free-To-Air Receiver and worldwide audio streaming at www.lmradio.co.mz.
